LikeBright

I join LikeBright a little after I graduated college. A small startup in Seattle set off to create better connections in online dating by having people relate to each other through their social group. As the sole designer on the team on the 7 person team, I worked closely with everyone of them. I worked on brainstorming, workflows, wireframes and mocks for both mobile and the web app.

Not another dating app

LikeBright's basic interaction is similar to that of a very popular dating app where you could only message people if they liked you back. What made It different was LikeBright worked by linking it with your Facebook account. By doing so, LikeBright would then direct you friends to all your available friends and their friends. You can browse these connections to see who you’d like to possibly meet You can even request a mutual friend's aid to help with the introduction.

The hurdle 

There was one very large problem to the heterosexual online dating world.  Men outnumber women 7 to 3 at the time of this project. This leaves a very bad experience on both sides. Women getting many unwanted messages that may make them feel overwhelmed and distant and men trying to grab the attention of the person of their interest with the odds not in their favor. In my thought process, by emphasizing this connection of a mutual friend, initial conversations can happen with a lot less friction

The matchmaker friend

I pushed for this mutual friend to be a pivotal part of LikeBright. One persona I tried to tease out more in this application was the matchmaker friend. This is a character who always has their friends interest at heart and is a social butterfly. The friend who is always happy to help you make new friends and connections. The matchmaker friend can suggest people you might have interested in by sharing any common traits, hobbies and interests. Like bright can suggest this to the matchmaker friend by proposing connections with people who have these things in common.
